National Sales Manager   

Sydney | Australia (AU) | Full-time | Permanent 

As the National Sales Manager (NSM) for Australia and New Zealand, you will lead, motivate, and manage a team of experienced Hospital Specialist Representatives.

 

You will be responsible for driving sales growth, achieving business targets, and fostering a culture of high performance and collaboration.

 

This role requires a strategic leader with strong operational capabilities and a passion for delivering results in a dynamic environment.

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire an experienced team of Senior / Hospital Specialist Representatives across Australia and New Zealand, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

 

  • Develop and execute strategies to enhance individual and team performance, building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, one-on-one coaching, and performance reviews.
  • Ensure all direct reports have up to date Job Descriptions and are skilled and trained to perform their role in a compliant and efficient manner.
  • Identify skills gaps and development opportunities within the team using the commercial competency framework, ensuring continuous growth and alignment with both personal and organisational goals.
  • Lead performance management processes, providing regular feedback, coaching, and development plans to support team members' career progression.
  • Ensure succession planning by identifying and developing future leaders, ensuring long-term organisational success.

Sales Strategy and Execution

  • Develop and implement national sales strategies and tactical plans aligned with overall business objectives.
  • Monitor sales performance and market trends to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Ensure the team achieves or exceeds sales targets while maintaining compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

Sales Force Effectiveness and Data-Driven Insights

  • Partner with the Marketing team to analyse sales data, market trends, and competitive intelligence.
  • Use insights derived from data to optimise sales strategies, territory planning, and resource allocation.
  • Establish KPIs to measure the impact and effectiveness of Sales activities, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with business goals.
  • Implement sales force effectiveness initiatives, including training, tools, and processes to maximise team performance.
  • Track and evaluate key performance indicators to ensure alignment with business goals.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, including Marketing, Medical Affairs, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Represent the sales function in cross-functional meetings to align strategies and share market insights.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and key opinion leaders to understand their needs and build trusted partnerships.

Operational Excellence

  • Develop accurate sales forecasts. Oversee and manage the sales department's budget, ensuring optimal resource allocation and cost-effective use of funds in alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Monitor territory and individual sales performance, addressing gaps through targeted interventions.
  • Ensure CRM systems and reporting tools are effectively utilised by the team.

Market Insights and Growth

  • Stay informed about competitive dynamics, industry developments, and healthcare trends in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Provide strategic input into product launches, promotional campaigns, and market access strategies.

Compliance and Ethical Standards:

  • Ensure all interactions and communications comply with local regulations (including Medicine’s Australia Code of Conduct), ethical standards, and the company's compliance policies.
  • Have in place documented processes and procedures including Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, Standard Response Documents to provide a compliant framework for all activities within scope.
  • Represent the company at scientific meetings and conferences, gathering intelligence to inform medical strategies, while ensuring compliance and ethical engagement with external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Desirable Experience

  • Proven Leadership Experience: At least 5 years in sales leadership roles within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry, preferably managing specialty or hospital products.
  • Sales Expertise: Demonstrated success in managing sales teams and achieving business targets.
  • Strong Industry Knowledge: Understanding of the hospital or specialty care environment in Australia and New Zealand.  Therapeutic knowledge / expertise in Neurology, Nephrology and Biosimilars would be beneficial.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to translate business objectives into actionable sales strategies.
  • Stakeholder Management: Excellent relationship-building skills with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry regulations and codes of conduct.  Proficient in Medicines Australia Code of Conduct, with a demonstrated ability to apply these principles in practice.
  • Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Science, or a related field. MBA or equivalent is desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex medical information clearly.
