About the Role:

The position of Microbiologist requires self-motivation and flexibility to the requirements made of them on a daily basis. The candidate will have a rounded understanding of both the microorganism we are likely to encounter, and the test procedures involved in detecting them. Daily tasks will include microbial enumeration, microbial identification, environmental monitoring, water analysis and document control. Key ability to plan their day around those tasks assigned to them, so good time management and self-discipline are important. Working as part of the team will also help the individual to promote the STADA values throughout the department. 

 

They should also be flexible to the ever-changing demands placed upon the department, being able to respond quickly and accurately when necessary. This makes agility especially important in this role. 

Due to the hands-on nature of the role, it is also important that, when the individual observes a potential for improvement that they can display entrepreneurial skills and work with the team to implement new ideas. 

 

  • Provide support and advice across the site on all matters relating to microbiology, in assistance to the Senior Microbiologist. 
  • To carry out the work required in an efficient, effective, and safe manner towards the performance targets of the team
  • Safety and responsibility towards the environment is an integral part of all activities at Thornton and Ross. This will be a key consideration in the development of the factory, equipment purchases, improvement work and training. 
  •  
  • Ensure activities and changes to equipment and working practices are made in line with guidelines laid out in the ‘Orange Guide’. 
  • Ensure all improvement opportunities are in line with ISO standards. Ensure all manufacturing operations are defined and documented to ensure optimum performance. 
  • Work to an agreed program of priorities. Provide regular feedback and progress reports. Proactively manage resources to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Educated to Degree level in Microbiology or other scientific discipline   
  • Indepth understanding of GMP
  • Understanding of ALCOA+ principles
  • Experience of working within laboratories      
  • Experience of working to deadlines
