Clinical Nurse Specialist   

Wellington | Australia (AU) | Part-time | Permanent 

Key Objectives of the Role

 

  • To contribute to the development and provision of a high-quality nursing service for people living with Parkinson's Disease receiving MOVAPO therapy/other STADA products as required
  • To work within a multidisciplinary team supporting the initiation and maintenance of MOVAPO therapy/ and other STADA products as required.

 

Overall Purpose of the Role

 

Nursing

  • The Clinical Nurse Specialist will work with multidisciplinary teams in order to develop existing services or facilitate new services from which MOVAPO and other STADA products as required can be introduced as part of local PD health provision. 
  • The Nurse Advisor will act as a source of information for patients they work with and provide general MOVAPO/ and other STADA products as required advice, which may be outside of normal working hours.
  • Contribute, where required, to patient clinics or hospital wards in order to assess patients and give clinical assistance to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Give advice and educational support to patients and their carers, according to STADA protocols.
  • Working within STADA protocols; facilitate an integrated team approach in supporting the patient throughout the initiation and maintenance of MOVAPO therapy or utilisation of other STADA products as required.
  • Provide appropriate support & education to the Healthcare Professionals (HCP) and patient following decision to undertake the use of MOVAPO and other STADA products as required.
  • Share evidence-based care in the use of MOVAPO/other STADA products as required whilst at all times working with internal and external staff in promoting a positive patient experience of MOVAPO therapy/other STADA products as required use.
  • Liaise with HCPs regarding the process of initiating therapy and subsequent patient discharge.
  • Facilitate and identify training needs of HCPs, for Parkinson’s disease and MOVAPO therapy or the use of other STADA products as required.
  • To provide in-services to HCPs on average once per week.
  • Work with HCPs, patients and carers to decrease the likelihood of hospital admissions for MOVAPO / PD associated problems
  • Liaise with the patient and carer in the community to reduce or avoid referrals for associated minor issues.   

 

Initiation

  • Provide extensive training on MOVAPO therapy/other STADA products, providing information on health care issues such as skin care and pump maintenance.
  • Travel when required to provide support and leave coverage to other STADA Nurse Advisors in consideration to fair and appropriate workload within the team.
  • Host and present at events, conferences and/or in services in relation to Parkinson’s Disease, MOVAPO/other STADA products as required and Stada as required.
  • The nurse will work closely with the ANZ Nurse Manager to balance work commitments and responsibilities including time management, patient clinics & patient follow up to manage the needs of people undergoing MOVAPO therapy and other STADA products as required.

Reporting

  • Complete all necessary administration and programme documentation in a timely and accurate manner as required, particularly in relation to project documentation, activity reporting, information feedback and expenses.
  • Submit all required reports to the ANZ Nurse Manager/General Manager ANZ in the agreed format and to agreed deadlines.

Development

  • To develop and maintain professional knowledge and skills as required by local industry associations.
  • Attend team teleconferences and training courses/study days as required in order to keep up to date with plans, developments, knowledge/skill area and to exchange knowledge and experience within the team.

Requirements

  • To act at all times in accordance with the Nursing Council of New Zealand code of conduct.
  • Undertake other tasks and assignments as requested by the ANZ Nurse Manager and/or General Manager ANZ.
  • Adhere to the terms and conditions of employment as set in the employment contract.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill and Experience

Essential:

  • Current and unrestricted nursing registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification.
  • Current and unrestricted full NZ driving licence.
  • Excellent face-to-face, written and telephone communications skills and the ability to adapt these to all levels.
  • Ability to explain and simplify complex information, both verbally and in writing
  • Computer literate with knowledge of all Microsoft packages.
  • Evidence of continual professional development and a desire to update professional knowledge base regularly.
  • An understanding of Parkinson's Disease and the key issues related to its management.
  • An understanding of audit or data collection requirements.

 

Desirable:

  • Neurology experience, preferably within Parkinson's Disease.
  • An understanding of clinical governance and evidence-based practice.
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Specialist qualification in neurological nursing.
  • Previous experience as Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialist or similar.
  • Teaching/training experience and/or teaching qualification.
  • Knowledge of relevant issues in relation to current health policies and legislation.
