Job Summary:
The Business Development Specialist is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and driving revenue growth within Africa. Africa is part of STADA Global Export and Trade Markets (GETM). This role involves market research, client relationship management, and collaboration with internal teams to develop and implement business strategies.
The person will contribute to Africa/GETM vision of doubling the business in 2 years, through leading and defining a fit for purpose portfolio and build clear partnership relations with operational KPIs driving robust growth and identify local opportunities acquiring local brands/companies and Leading local manufacturing projects when required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Market Analysis & Strategy:
- Conduct market research to identify trends, competitors, and potential business opportunities.
- Analyse regulatory changes and their impact on business development strategies as well as launch timelines.
- Evaluate project/product opportunities initiated by Global Portfolio Management.
- Provide reliable analysis that can contribute to the decision-making process.
- Develop and execute go-to-market strategies for new products and services.
- Submit business cases and manage the post submission evaluation/execution process by leading cross functional teams with Portfolio, Technical development, Finance, IP/Legal, Regulatory and Marketing.
- Keep all information tracked and visible including input for monthly business reviews with BD head and GETM Leadership team.
- Lead Generation & Client Acquisition:
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities with pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, and healthcare organizations.
- Negotiate and close deals to achieve sales and the short- and long-term revenue targets.
- Partnership Development:
- Identify and engage with strategic partners, including contract manufacturers, research organizations, and distribution channels as relevant to the assigned tasks.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop proposals, presentations, and partnership agreements.
- Work with regulatory and compliance teams to ensure alignment with industry standards.
- Product & Service Promotion:
- Understand product offering clearly to be able to effectively promote it to the external clients, or contract manufacturing services, or licensing opportunities.
- Participate in industry events, trade shows, and conferences to represent the company and look for new business opportunity.
- Provide input on marketing strategies and promotional materials.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Liaise with Department Head, and Commercial leads for new launches and projects.
- Work closely with regulatory, legal, sales, and marketing teams to align business development efforts.
- Assist in pricing strategies, market entry planning, and commercial operations.
- Support project management and contract negotiations with external stakeholders.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Business Administration, Life Sciences, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in business development, portfolio management, sales, or partnerships within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare industry.
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulatory environment, drug development, and commercialization processes.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to analyse data and market trends to make strategic decisions.
- Willingness to travel for business meetings, conferences, and client interactions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with licensing, or contract manufacturing (CMO/CDMO) activities.
- Knowledge of global regulatory frameworks (FDA, EMA, ICH).
- Prior experience in B2B sales, pharma distribution, or drug development partnerships.
